Whistler to Seattle – 218 miles

Wednesday Feb 20th.  It’s our second day in Whistler.   We connect the car to a charger the second night even though the battery had already been topped off the previous night and not driven.   Wednesday makes for a full day of skiing.  Whistler is probably one of the finest skiing resorts in the world.  Whistler village is one of the most happening ski villages I’ve ever been to.  There are  hundreds of shops, stores, restaurants and dozens of things to do while off the slopes.     We ski most of the day and continue skiing a bit after lunch.  I mostly stuck with Juan, giving him lessons on the beginner slopes, but I did get a chance to ski a few blue runs  and conditions were beautiful.  Be sure to take a ride on the PEAK 2 PEAK gondola between Whistler mountain and Blackcomb mountain.   It spans 4.4KM from end to end and the ride is 11 minutes each way.   I would choose to stay in Whistler for two weeks if we didn’t have to keep up with our driving schedule.

We leave Whistler late afternoon for Vancouver, on a full battery.  Upon arriving to Vancouver we find a great Chinese restaurant, Kirin Seafood a few blocks from City Hall, so we leave the car once again to charge for free at City Hall.  The food is simply superb and I get to have my favorite Chinese soup, hot & sour (sans pork).  The vegetable dim sum is about about the best I’ve ever had.   Lucky for me Juan is agreeable to my vegetarian preferences, as we order all veggie food and share the selections.

Afterwards, we stop off at a sporting goods store which is going out of business and I pick up an awesome set of ice skates for $25.  We actually have a skating rink in South Beach at the community center.  We retrieve the car and continue on to Seattle arriving with a good 50 miles to spare on the battery.  We book in the same Crown Plaza hotel and charge around the corner at the Kimpton Vintage Park Hotel, using their Blink EV charger at the valet station.  Unfortunately, this time around the valet charges us the next morning for parking @ their whopping $42 rate, but at least we charge for free.   Plugshare shows numerous EV chargers downtown, so if one calls around, I am sure they can find a much better deal.
