Monday, March 4th.   The days are beginning to become a blur.   Waking up, Juan retrieves the Tesla from USA RV Park, we pack our bags into the car and continue East.   We stop in Albuquerque for lunch and a free charge in downtown.  Both the charger and street parking spot are free of charge.  We encounter two EV chargers, one is occupied with a Nissan Leaf, so we pull in behind the Leaf and plug in.  Off we go for lunch, ending up at Nick’s Crossroads Cafe cafe with free internet.  Afterwards, we explore downtown making our way back to the Tesla almost 3 hours later.  Onward to Tucumcari.  The days are becoming easier and less stressful.  Planning ahead, we have our motel and RV Park scouted out and confirmed.   Tucumcari is a small town in the heart of Route 66 territory.  Back since Kingman, we keep intersecting with the old Route 66.    Early evening, we first pull into the Historic Route 66 Motel checking in and depositing our bags in the room.  It’s a quaint and modern looking 60’s style hotel, but it’s not at all historic, being built or refurbished only a few years ago.   Two blocks away is our charging spot, the Kiva RV Park.  Tom the owner greets us out front by the entrance escorts us to our parking spot.  We quickly connect up and start juicing at 240V 40Ah.   Tom is fascinated by the vehicle.  He acts as if it’s his first encounter with an ET, whoops I mean EV and he can’t get over how cool the Tesla is.

Tom is well connnected in Tucuncari.  Turns out he hosts a morning radio talk show and he invites us to the show Tuesday morning at 8:15AM.  The station location is between the motel and his RV park, so we agree participate.   Read our next post to hear about the radio interview.
